Our success depends on the quality of care provided to each and every patient. Our expert team of physicians, nurses, therapists, case managers and hospital staff is committed to providing safe, quality and cost-effective care to all patients. We strive to help every patient maximize their potential and exceed their expectations.
HealthSouth’s rehabilitation hospitals comply with local, state and federal regulations as well as the accreditation standards of The Joint Commission.
In addition to the required standards, many of our hospitals’ rehabilitation programs have earned Disease-Specific Care Certification from The Joint Commission. This means the hospital complies with the highest national standards for safety and quality of care for one particular disorder, such as stroke, brain injury or diabetes. Learn more about Disease-Specific Care Certification.
Also, some hospitals have elected to become accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
HealthSouth’s Clinical Leadership Board provides oversight for our nationwide network of hospitals. The Board’s mission is to ensure that each hospital has the information, education and resources needed to provide care that is both clinically and operationally excellent. This board includes national representatives from each clinical discipline and is led by HealthSouth Chief Medical Officer Lisa Charbonneau, D.O. M.S.
The goal of every team member is to help our patients meet their maximum independence and enhance their quality of life. To measure our patients’ progress, we use the FIM® instrument to track our patients' improvement. Developed by Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation (UDSMR®), the FIM® instrument is the industry’s most widely recognized outcomes measurement tool. There is no such database for nursing homes.
The UDSMR® system:
- Evaluates and tracks a patient’s functional status upon admission and discharge to document and assess rehabilitation effectiveness
- Captures data from almost 800 rehabilitation hospitals
- Submits data to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
- Allows HealthSouth rehabilitation hospitals and affiliates to benchmark against national performance data
HealthSouth hospitals consistently rank in the top 10 percent of all inpatient rehabilitation hospitals in the UDSMR® database. These hospitals are recognized for delivering effective, efficient, timely and patient-centered care.
A measure of functional improvement from admission to discharge. FIM® gain indicates the degree of practical improvement toward the patient’s goals.
Your rehabilitation experience
We work hard to set the highest standards for patient care by protecting privacy, listening to needs and respecting preferences. We have enlisted Press Ganey, one of the nation’s leading healthcare research firms, to continually measure our patients’ perception of their experience in our hospitals. With Press Ganey patient surveys, as well as other collected data, we are better able to evaluate our patient experience and help patients reach their goals for maximum independence.
